The Free Man

I gave you my blood,
I gave you my flesh,
my tears in a flood,
and skin in the thresh.

You hungered for me;
the taste of my sweat.
But now I am free,
and free of regret.

I'm not coming back
to be whipped-on some more.
I've filled up my pack
and walked out the door.

You'll eat of yourself;
your sinews and veins.
And you'll find your own wealth
once you've felt your own pain.
